Varifocal glasses in Vecindario

Varifocals (progressive lenses) let you see at a distance, at arm's length and close up with the same pair of glasses. At Ópticas del Sur, in Vecindario, they are our speciality: 99% of our customers adapt without any problems, and every pair comes with a 60-day adaptation guarantee.

That's why customers come to us from Las Palmas and from all over Gran Canaria.

What are varifocals?

With age, it gets harder to focus up close: this is presbyopia. A varifocal lens has several zones that blend into each other with no visible line:

  • At the top, for distance: driving, watching TV or going for a walk.
  • In the middle, for intermediate distance: the computer or the car dashboard.
  • At the bottom, for close up: reading, your phone or sewing.

So you don't have to swap glasses every time you look at something at a different distance.

How we fit your varifocals

  1. We listen. We talk about how you use your eyes every day (driving, working at a computer, reading…) to recommend the lens that suits you best, and we explain its features.
  2. We choose the frame. We help you choose a comfortable frame that works well with varifocals: acetate, metal or rimless.
  3. We take the measurements. We measure precisely where your eyes sit in relation to the lens, so that each zone is in the right place.
  4. We hand them over. In about 10 days, depending on the coatings and the lens index. When you collect them, we explain how to get used to them.

Standard and occupational varifocals

Standard varifocals are for all-day wear and all distances. Occupational varifocals focus on intermediate and near vision: they are designed for people who spend long hours working at a computer or with paperwork.

We fit both types with lenses from Indo, Essilor, Kodak and BBGR.

60-day adaptation guarantee

All our varifocal lenses come with a 60-day adaptation guarantee. Thanks to our advice beforehand and careful measurements, 99% of our customers adapt without difficulty.

In the first few days it is normal to notice something odd when you move your head or look through the sides of the lens. We explain how to get past it in how to get used to varifocal glasses.
